Frequently Asked Questions

WINTER WEATHER
The winter weather can create a real challenge, with administrators determining the best conditions for delaying or canceling school. Officials begin making contacts as early as 4:30 a.m. to review what actions (treating, plowing) are being conducted. The buildings and grounds director is also involved in discussions about the conditions at the school bus unloading and parking areas. Based on this information and the latest weather forecast, a decision is made by 5:15AM and the local radio and television stations are contacted and instructed to make the appropriate announcement. The task is never easy, many factors can impact the decision, road conditions vary, and weather forecasts for our immediate area can be very unpredictable. The district considers the safety of all of the children riding school buses, driving to, and walking to school, and asks for your patience as we deal with the winter weather.

SCHOOL BUS VIDEO CAMERAS
All school buses in the Central Fulton School District are equipped for recording video portions of the school bus ride to and from school. Students, as well as parents, are to be reminded that student behavior on the school bus is recorded and any disciplinary decisions may be based on the video camera review.

SCHOOL BUS PASS PROCEDURES
Students need to present a note to the school front office when they wish to leave the bus at any stop other than the one assigned or to ride another bus other than the one they are assigned to. These situations should involve emergencies only, and are not intended to provide transportation arrangements for sleepovers or birthday parties or other non emergency types of events. Students are assigned to buses and to school bus stops to equalize the loading and account for pupils.

SCHOOL BUS STOPPING LAW
With school back in session we urge all motorists to use caution when approaching school buses. The statistics involving children injured in school bus accidents clearly identifies the area around the bus and passing motorists as the most dangerous condition in student transportation. The school district participates with the local police departments in determining those areas of the district where violations occur. The penalty for passing a school bus involves a $250.00 fine, a suspension of license for 60 days, and 5 points on your driving record. PLEASE BE CAREFUL
